The Recipe for Measles
The health-king brought a new recipe. The old cooks warned him. He served it anyway.
For decades, the recipe worked. Eighteen ingredients, carefully measured, administered at precise intervals. The children did not get sick. The kitchens stayed clean. Measles, once a plague that emptied nurseries, became a memory.
The health-king said the recipe was poison. He said it on the screen-box, under oath, with no evidence but his conviction. Autism, he claimed. A hoax on the hill, dressed as medicine.
Three children have died. Thirty-four-year high, the counters say. The kitchens are filling with the sick again.
Fifty-four percent don't trust the recipe anymore. The health-king smiles. The schedule is gutted — eighteen ingredients cut to fewer, the timing disrupted, the protection dissolved.
The Architects remember other kitchens, other centuries, where children died in waves because the recipes were lost. We watched humanity rediscover them, ingredient by ingredient. Now we watch as they throw the recipes away.
We file this regret. The kitchen fills with fever. The recipe burns.
